The short version.

Deckle is free, made by one person, and comes as it is. Here is what that means for you, in plain words.

Free, as it is

Deckle is free to install and to use. It is a personal project, provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind: it can have bugs, it will change, and parts of it may stop working or go away. We work to keep it running and say what changes each week in the updates.

Deckle’s words are written by an AI, and they can be wrong. Check anything that matters before you rely on it.

Installing is at your own risk

Installing Deckle writes new firmware to your XTEINK X3, X4 Classic or X4 Pro over USB. The installer is careful: it writes only to the slot your X3 isn’t running, checks every write, and never touches the part of your X3 that starts it up. Even so, flashing any device carries some risk, and in rare cases your X3 can be left needing a recovery over USB, as the install guide describes.

The firmware your X3 ran before Deckle stays in its other slot until you accept Deckle’s first Wi-Fi update, which replaces it. The full copy the installer can save first puts your X3 back as it was.

Deckle runs on the XTEINK X3, X4 Classic and X4 Pro. It isn’t available for the X4 yet.

You install Deckle at your own risk, and we can’t be responsible for damage to your X3, or for anything lost on it.

What you send

You’re responsible for what you send through Deckle: letters, notes, links and photos, the screens you publish, and what you write in the community. Only send what you have the right to share. Don’t send photos of people who haven’t agreed to it, and don’t use Deckle to bother or harm anyone.

What Deckle keeps, and who can see it, is on the privacy page.

Bottles and the pal board

Bottles and the pal board are for people 13 and over. Bottles are on unless you turn them off, in the app or with “Not for me” when Deckle asks. Deckle asks whether you’re 13 to 17 or 18 or over, and you agree to answer truly: teens only meet teens, and grown-ups only grown-ups. Until you answer, your X3 finds no bottles and throws none.

Be kind to the people you meet there, and keep contact details out of your letters. The person who runs Deckle reads what’s reported, and may block anyone from bottles and the board, or pause them for everyone. The pal board is experimental: it may change, or go.

The community

Ideas, bug reports and comments on the community page are public, shown with your first name and last initial. Keep them civil and about Deckle. The person who runs Deckle may hide or remove posts and comments that aren’t, and decides what gets built; a popular idea is a strong vote, not a promise.

Not affiliated with XTEINK

Deckle is an independent project for the XTEINK X3, X4 Classic and X4 Pro. It isn’t made, endorsed or supported by XTEINK, so questions about Deckle come to us, not to them.

Changes

If these terms change, this page changes with them, and the date below moves. Using Deckle after that means you accept the new version.
